SHIP Active Living Technical Assistance
Introduction

The Carlton-Cook-Lake-St. Louis and Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Boards in Northeastern Minnesota, collectively known as Healthy Northland, are working on reducing the burden of chronic diseases through policy, systems and environmental changes. With funding from the Minnesota Department of Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Program (MDH) and a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Healthy Northland is working in the areas of active living, clinical care, healthy eating and tobacco-free living to address MDH's overall goal of helping Minnesotans live longer, better, healthier lives. In turn, ARDC has been contracted by Healthy Northland to provide technical assistance for the active living strategy. ARDC's goal in pursuing active living work is as follows:

To implement policies and practices that create active communities by increasing opportunities for non-motorized transportation (walking and biking) and access to community recreation facilities.
